When carrying out inventories in rural areas, our clerks regularly come across properties heated by oil-fired heating systems.
Instead of a mains gas supply, these properties often have a large oil tank located externally, usually within the garden.
So how do you know how much oil is left?
Many tanks are fitted with an electronic Watchman gauge, which provides an approximate reading of the oil level. For example, if the tank has a 1,000-litre capacity and the gauge shows 50%, there should be approximately 500 litres remaining.
But what happens when there’s no electronic gauge?
It’s back to the old-school method — checking the tank manually! 😄
